Arm-Posture Coupling
Location
Human Movement and Balance Laboratory
Pittsburgh, PA
Our study focuses on examining the impact of vestibular hypofunction on arm swing dynamics during lateral perturbations. We aim to investigate whether there is a temporal discrepancy in arm swings between individuals with normal vestibular function and those with vestibular hypofunction. Additionally, we are interested in determining if the amplitude of arm swings is distinguishable between healthy subjects and patients with vestibular hypofunction, and how these differences contribute to the body’s angular momentum. The insights gained from this research will inform future physical therapists on effective rehabilitation strategies to assist patients in regaining a standard gait pattern, ultimately improving their quality of life.
