Description: Our project develops a dedicated transabdominal needle guide for the curvilinear ultrasound probe. I led the design by starting with killer experiments using foam-core models on a tofu phantom, then integrating ethnographic insights and hazard-driven requirements from our REI clinic observations. These inputs shaped the Fusion 360 CAD, including the probe-matched shell geometry, fixed 53° needle path, and stability/cleanability constraints. I translated these models into 3D-printed prototypes, iterating through sanding, fitting, and bonded assembly to validate alignment, grip, and structural stability, strengthening my skills in risk-based, human-centered clinical design.
I also presented our design at the Bioengineering Expo, explaining the clinical motivation, engineering decisions, and my specific contributions to attendees. This experience reinforced my ability to communicate complex design work clearly and effectively to both technical and clinical audiences.
